What Content Management System Is the BEST????

What Content Management System Is the BEST????

Oh the ever illusive content management system.  Everyone knows that their platform is the RIGHT one.  You know why? Because most developers are only trained on one CMS platform.  So they tout the one the know best cuz EXPERTS.

I’m here to tell you to stop listening to them.  There’s more to the story when you are looking at the right CMS platform for your website.

Is it WordPress?  DNN?  Drupal?  Joomla? Is one extraordinarily better than the other one?

In short, the answer is no.

Hilton, Bose, Bank of America – use DNN.
Sony, The New Yorker and Best Buy – use WordPress
GE, Pfizer, and Johnson and Johnson – use Drupal
Harvard University, The Guggenheim, and EBay – use Joomla.

What’s my point?  There isn’t a BEST.

Think of your website content management system like driving a car.  The radio buttons might be in a different place or the door locking mechanism may be electric vs manual - but you still drive the car.  You want a fancy car ie: major site customization?  You pay more. You want a Honda Civic ie: informational, some SEO and a blog- you pay less. NO MATTER THE CMS PLATFORM.

What you need to know is that if you’re not an expert in the field of CMS – then you need to find a marketing and web partner that is.  This resource can be outsourced or in-house but ultimately should be responsible for the ins and outs of whatever platform you decide, be able to train others to use it and be able to build, modify and grow your website on a regular basis with SEO, paid search and content development.

Now, don’t get me wrong. The platform is important. But what’s more important is the person managing it, developing it and using it to support and grow your brand in the best way possible.
